Fans have explored several different game engines as a way to recreate Oni with more advanced graphics and other features. Oni has also influenced a handful of later games. The focus below is on games that deliver an Oni-like experience, as opposed to [[:Category:Fan-made games|fan-made Oni tribute games]] in general.
After playing and replaying [[Oni]], fans often ask what other games are like Oni. Although none are a total match for Oni's gameplay, this article lists:
* games with high similarity to Oni,
* games with some similarity, and
* games inspired/influenced by Oni.

At the end, we document past attempts by fans to recreate Oni in several different game engines.

==Oni-like games==
==Oni-like games==
These games resemble Oni in various ways. Because Oni fans are often thinking about different aspects of the game when they ask for "Oni-likes", we've attempted to characterize what aspect of each game is Oni-like. The "Deep melee" column will report "Yes" for any game that has more than basic punches/kicks, e.g. combos and throws. The "Gunplay" column reports "Yes" for games that have ranged weapons, including bows, in regular use, but not if there are only occasionally-used weapons like thrown knives (Urban Chaos) or guns that are picked up and quickly discarded (Yakuza). '''All of the below games are third-person.''' The last column totals the number of "hits" in the previous 5 columns.
The games in this list meet the following three criteria: (1) third-person action, (2) gunplay (defined as some kind of ranged weapons being commonly in use), and (3) deep melee (combat system has more than basic punches/kicks, e.g. combos and throws). See the next table for games that have some similarities to Oni but don't meet all these criteria.
