Nausicaa

A manga, and later an anime movie, by Hayao Miyazaki. About a princess who is trying to understand what is behind the antagonism between man and nature. In the time of the story, the planet's wildlife (both flora and fauna) has become hostile to humans, and humanity survives only be ekeing out a living in small communities while fighting back the advance of the poisonous toxins of the Forest.

Tie-In

The strange nature of the mutation of life mirrors that of Oni, which is known to be inspired by various anime. Nausicäa is also listed as a favorite anime/manga by at least one Bungie West staffer in Harry's interview.
