This is an attempt to assemble a complete list of Oni's physical releases, a process made difficult by the fact that there were some questionably-official distributions of the game outside of the United States (typically these releases did not translate the game but only some of the packaging, leaving the game itself in English). So far we have 32 releases documented below. We do not attempt to list game bundles which included Oni; these bundles likely did not contain modified versions of Oni but merely whatever version was already distributed in that region. If a distributor is not clearly named on the package, the name of the publisher is used in the Distributor column. Note that a localization (documented at Localizations) is different from a release. A single localization of Oni, e.g. Italian, might have been distributed in several releases.

Oni may not be a famous title, but there is always money to be made on bootleg releases, and today these can be offered secondhand for significant amounts of money as if they are historically important collectibles. The asking price for the fake copy on the right: $299.00. This listing for a Chinese-language version of Oni is a physical copy of the game that you can really buy, and it may contain a disc with the data from the legitimate Century Thor release, but the box is entirely fabricated by an unauthorized third party. It seems legitimate, doesn't it? There's no shortage of logos on it, and what looks like some sort of authentication watermark, so it must be legitimate… wait, is that a piece of fan art on the back? One thing is for sure: this box is not a collector's item any more than a copy of the Mona Lisa which someone has run off their inkjet printer.

If you want to look at all of the wiki's images of the game's packaging at once, see Category:Packaging images. If you want to read about the localizations of Oni per se and not the physical form their releases took, see Localizations.

This is an attempt to assemble a complete list of Oni's physical releases, a process made difficult by the fact that there were some questionably-official distributions of the game outside of the United States (typically these releases did not translate the game but only some of the packaging, leaving the game itself in English). Also, it's hard to tell which regions received Mac and Windows releases and which only received Windows releases. Thus, this page is a perpetual work in progress.

Oni has had some unusual distributions. Click image for details.

So far we have 38 releases documented below.

P.S.: A fun fact about the official localized releases is that the localizers often received more than just the set of files intended for the final game and included everything unknowingly, which is documented HERE.

Official releases

Localization (L10n) legend
Full: The game's dialogue was re-dubbed into the target language and the materials outside the game (packaging, manual) were translated as well.
S&U: The game was not re-dubbed, but the in-game subtitles and game UI text were translated.
B&M: Only the box and manual were translated, and the game data was not altered.
None: This is only true for the original English language version of the game. The U.K. English distribution is also marked as None although the manual was lightly altered.
Packaging terminology legend
Large: Any cardboard box measuring around the same size as Gatefold. These may have a jewel case inside containing the actual game disc.
Gatefold: A cardboard box measuring 7.875" x 9.5" x 1.5" (20 cm x 24.1 cm x 3.8 cm) which has a flap that opens like a book. A jewel case inside contains the game disc. Also comes in a Holographic version with reflective coating.
Compact: A compact nearly-square box (5.5" x 5" x 0.5", 14 cm x 12.7 cm x 1.3 cm) which is also gatefold.
Keep: A keep case is the tall plastic case universally used for PS2 games.
Jewel: This means that the game was sold (to our knowledge) without a box, merely in a standard CD jewel case.

Illegitimate releases

Looks official, right?
