General Notes

After installing Oni you may want to check out www.godgames.com and www.bungie.com for news about Oni. Also, to maximize your Oni experience, you'll want to make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. Check with the manufacturer's web site, or try OpenGL setup which is included with ONI.

To learn how to play Oni, try the training level in the game. You can also hit the F1 key while playing to get the keyboard controls and hints.

Installation and Configuration

To Install Oni, run the program 'Oni Installer' from the Oni CD.

If you find that you do no have enough physical RAM to run Oni, turn on Virtual Memory in your computer's Memory Control Panel. You may need to adjust your virtual memory settings higher than Oni's preferred size for best performance. Anything over 200 MB total virtual memory should be more than sufficient.

Oni sets the default keyboard controls upon its first launch. If you would like to change the keyboard controls, you need to modify the key_config.txt text file. key_config.txt is located in the same directory as the Oni application file.

Known Issues

This section contains a list of known problems and their various work-arounds if available. Many of these issues are related to video cards and as a general rule of thumb, can be fixed by either running the OpenGL Installer or getting the latest driver from your card manufacturer.

[All Systems] Animated cutscenes are choppy and audio slurred. This may be caused by low RAM or hard drive space, try freeing up hard drive space to fix.

[OSX Beta] Mouse tracking is bound at the screen edge due to the lack of Input Sprocket support. If you run Oni in "classic" mode then this problem is not present.

[OSX Beta] Intro and outro cell animated movies do not play because the Bink Shared Library currently does not support OSX. If you run Oni in "classic" mode then this problem is not present.

[Kensington Turbo Mouse] The Kensington Turbo Mouse control panel software may possibly prevent the control key from functioning while running Oni.

[Microsoft Intellimouse] The Intellimouse control panel may conflict with Oni, causing loss of mouse control; disabling the Intellimouse control panel may fix the problem.

[ATI Rage Pro Graphics Card] Some graphic elements may not draw with the proper transparency due to hardware limitations of this graphics card. This may include certain particle effects and UI elements.

[Multiple Display Cards] If you have multiple display adapters from the same vendor installed on your system (for example an ATI RageII and an ATI Rage 128), they may conflict, causing Oni to fail to run properly. You may have to unplug the monitor from one of these display adapters in order to run Oni.

[Multiple Display Cards] If you have a secondary display card installed with its extensions / drivers still enabled, but do not have a monitor attached to it, Oni mail fail to launch correctly. The solution to this is to disable the extensions / drivers for any display cards which you are not currently using.

[All Systems] Starting Oni in a display that is set to an "un-safe" mode (that is, one which is not in the list of recommended display modes in the Monitors control panel) may result in the display being set to a resolution different than the original setting upon exiting Oni.

[Rev A iMac, 1st Generation beige G3 PowerMac] These systems come standard with the ATI Rage IIc graphics card, which is not sufficient to run Oni. Upgrading to a 3Dfx VoodooII / ATI Rage 128 or better will allow you run Oni on these systems.

[Action Utilities GoMac] This utility will cause a portion of the bottom of the game display not to draw. You should disable this utility prior to running Oni.

3D Video Card Drivers

Make sure that you have the latest drivers from the manufacturer of your video card. Many video issues will be resolved if you install your video card's latest drivers. ONI may not detect some older video cards properly because their video drivers are not OpenGL compliant. Please contact your video card manufacturer for updated drivers or install the Open GL driver supplied with the OpenGL Installer. Listed below are some common video card manufacturers' web sites. Oni may not support some or all of the cards produced by a particular manufacturer.
