Little big thought

Rather than ZLL, isn't the best name for this branch "LSI"? Could stand for Logistics Services International, or anything else unremarkable. This ties them to the LSI tracker and harness encountered earlier in the game.

BGI is a global corporation who supply technology to the WCG, but also have a hand in the black market, and are tied to the Syndicate historically. Since they are playing both sides, it's in their best interests to keep the status quo; nothing could be better for business. BGI is wary of Konoko, because she's a Daodan host and the daughter of someone who wanted to upset the status quo. At first, BGI merely has Konoko under surveillance. As long as she is loyal to the TCTF, they hope that she will help take down Muro.

Meanwhile, BGI finally discovers Muro's plan (Sturmanderung) and realizes that he is a threat which needs to be contained immediately because it will destroy the status quo. Having learned where his base of operations is, they decide to raid it with their best troops, as well as to use their state-of-the-art battle mech, the Iron Demon. They only have time to finish two, and one is being built at Musashi Manufacturing (note that Konoko's diary entry asks if they are involved in weapons or robotics). By this time, Muro knows that BGI is not his ally and may even know that they are out to get him, so he throws a monkey wrench into their plans by using Musashi (Ch. 2) as a decoy to buy him time to hit Vago (Ch. 3), and also to interrupt the process of assembling the Iron Demon, which the Deadly Brain there was meant to pilot (thus explaining what it was asking for when it demanded feet). A second Iron Demon is successfully built at another semi-legit BGI-owned company called ZLL, and equipped with a second Deadly Brain as pilot.

When Konoko goes rogue, BGI anxiously watches to see if the TCTF will "take her in or take her down" before she transforms. Like Griffin, they anticipate that she will go to the State Building to learn more by accessing her father's files, and so they send a ninja team headed by their master ninja to take the files before she can get them. The concern is that if she learns about the Daodan and the severity of the world's pollution, she is more likely to continue the subversive work her father was doing. Immediately after Konoko beats Mukade, they decide to move in on her openly. They use a stealth dropship to ascend to the rooftop and dispatch troops. She escapes them and heads to Hasegawa's Lab. After the existing dream sequence level, Konoko wakes up to find the Lab is being silently raided by BGI, who are hunting her and are already guarding her motorcycle outside. She escapes by commandeering their dropship and taking off.

She decides to seek out her uncle, Dr. Kerr, in the Science Prison, and uses the dropship to parachute onto the roof of the Prison security tower to avoid the web of cameras at ground level. At the end of the level, having survived an acid bath, Konoko drags herself back to the ship, where she has spare weapons and clothes. She picks up a broadcast from BGI about a pending operation, and decides to investigate the ones who have been hunting her. The ship computer still has waypoint data in it from its point of origin, so she flies back there to find a building owned by ZLL.

The heads of BGI are monitoring this situation, and decide that the smartest course of action is to act like they don't know who Konoko is, rather than get into a big fight with her while also trying to secretly ship out troops for a Mountain Compound raid. But Konoko is not fooled by their act, and proceeds through the buildings until she finds a cargo copter about to lift off with the Iron Demon and troops. Not knowing what they're for, she stops the lift-off, damaging the copter in the process, and it lands again. The troops disperse, and she begins to fight the Iron Demon with a rocket launcher she found in an armory at ZLL.

At this point, the heads of BGI need to think fast.  What if she defeats the Iron Demon? It's the centerpiece of their raid against Muro, and they were counting on having two of them in the first place. By the time Konoko defeats the Iron Demon using knowledge gleaned from the consoles at ZLL, they have a hastily-assembled plan. They let Konoko obtain the location of Muro's base and allow her to take the dropship again, while pretending to offer resistance. It's not much of a plan, but if Konoko was able to beat some of their BGI troops and their top-of-the-line mech, they figure that she's their best chance to stop Muro, in lieu of their now-scuttled raid.

Konoko does not know Muro's plan and timetable yet. When she returns to the dropship, she hears Shinatama calling to her through her neural link, and she is compelled to investigate even though she thought Shinatama was dead. She heads to the TCTF to get some answers from Griffin, using the stealth dropship to get onto the roof. This level proceeds as before, then she takes the dropship to the Compound and drops out of it, landing at the beginning of Ch. 14.
