Rampancy
The world rampant had existed before Bungie, but the specific concept of rampancy was coined and subsequently developed by the Marathon team. The three/four stages of a rampant (abnormally self-aware) AI are Melancholia, Anger, Jealousy, Meta-Stability. The tirades of the Deadly Brain are a reference to this, as well as Shinatama's "Clearly, it's gone rampant".
;From here...
:A very blatant Marathon reference in Oni. In level 2 (see http://oni.bungie.org/res/) you have to fight a "Deadly Brain". It is a human brain hooked up to a computer. As you disable it, it tries to leave its intranet. At one point Shinatama says that "Clearly, it's gone rampant...".
The Deadly Brain can thus be assimilated to Durandal, and Shinatama to Leela. See also: http://home.comcast.net/~chrismb/marathon1.html
