The title is written using the Chinese symbol 鬼, borrowed by the Japanese who use it to mean "oni" but originally meaning "ghost", plus the symbol 妮, "girl". In Chinese "鬼妮" produces a title that sounds like "Gweinee", which approximates the sound of the game's original name and also translates as "Ghost Girl".
