Joint Story: Difference between revisions

The rhythmic clip-clop of her shoes pounding the ground resonated throughout the hallways of the mountain compound as Konoko dashed for the exit.  She had overridden some crucial executables in the programs used to maintain the activities of all the major atmospheric processors in this sector, and she knew this would cause the systems to overload.  Assuming this could entail anything from a fading hum to a violent explosion, Konoko didn't care to stick around and witness the outcome firsthand.

"We don't have time for this," Mai said.  "Just give it up.  Your boss is dead."

(here im going to assume that Leus doesnt know what was on the screen, so im hoping im not going to take this into a completely different direction smile )

FREEZE ALL OF YOU !!! a voice said coming from the vault's entrance

The one hour walk it should have taken to get to the warehouse was doubled. They had to take back alleys and duck out of sight when someone came by. Mai was now a wanted criminel and they couldn't afford to compromise their position. When they finally reached the now vacant warehouse, darkness had fallen.

"I knew you'd be drawn here sooner or later. We need to talk."

"Kerr said the machine is an advanced technology which he had been working on for five years. He said it is still a prototype but its near to completion."."No i worked on that thing!" interrupted Mukade.

Konoko took a sniper rifle  and she took aim on one BGI guy........ and pulled the trigger !

...Nowhere.  Mai and Griffin panicked, their heads darting left and right.  Mukade was nowhere to be found.

Mai looked harshly into Samoko's eyes.  Samoko choked and gagged, but gave no response.  Mai sighed.  "Where are they?" she demanded.

Among the weapons they found at the lab was an early prototype of the chrysalis enhancer used by Samoko. However, according to some information downloaded by Mukade, (he downloaded all the contents of Kerr's computer to sift through any additional information that could be of use.)

"Doctor, you to go around back and try to find an empty room to teleport into," Griffin instructed.  "Once you're in, find an isolated and unprotected back door, window, or some way for us to get in unnoticed."

Barabas let them shackle his wrists and stand him up, walking with them out of sight.

...Thin air.  Mukade roundhouse kicked in the direction Mai had indicated, and his foot connected jarringly with something.  A loud clang rang out on impact, followed by a heavy thud shortly thereafter.  Another clang rang out and Mukade was sent sailing back a couple of feet, gracefully turning his fall into a backwards arial and landing in a kneeling pose facing away from the action.

After seeing one of ther comrades fall, the rest of the black suited men, backed up and raised their hands. Clearly, they did not want to mess with Griffin. He leaned over Casey, tears forming in his grey, steely eyes.

Mukade looked at Mai.  He was glad Barabas couldn't see the look of dread in his eyes.

Mukade gave a low curse as Griffen flew out the door. The BGI were still roaming the area in search of them, and he wasn't about to let Griffin get gunned down.

"We've got to get moving, it isn't safe here"

"We must protect him," another identical voice came.  "We must protect him.  We must protect him."

"Where..." he began, then saw the frail and bleeding girl on the ground.  He hurriedly hobbled to her side and dropped to his knee.

"What happend to you all this time my darling?"

The group was ragtag to be sure; along with Mukade and Barabas, the imago symbiotes now numbered seven.  The other five had been assigned names for practical purposes, although none of them had any true memories of their past before the BGI prison.  Casey was the tallest and the only one who still retained any apparent hair pigment; a shaggy, pale red crop grew sparsely from his scalp.  His eyes were a faded green.  The rest consisted of a bald woman called Sam, a man called Ford with scraggly white hair stretching down past his shoulders and a sparse beard, and a woman with crudely-cut, short white hair in tight curls who went by the name Axel.  The boy who Barabas had carried from the lab looked like he couldn't have been older than 17, though the look in his eyes suggested otherwise.  He was the smallest of the group, bald and with a strange lump on his forehead.  He went by the name of Edgar.

Mukade drew his weapon and brought one of the Imago's down, twitching, but they recognized the threat and two of them quickly disarmed him and threw the gun out of reach.

They'd been on the road for a little while now.  There was desert stretching down either side of the narrow road, an unfamiliar sight for most of them as they'd grown up in an arcology of streets and skyscrapers, or in a stark and bright lab never even seeing sunlight.  Mai shifted restlessly between the snoring Casey and Edgar.

The sun was rising by the time they reached Stoneridge.  It was a much smaller city than the one they came from; like a distant suburb.  Normally a city this small wouldn't warrant an atmospheric processor, but this town was full of the elite class and their mansions.  They'd paid to have a processor constructed in their town for the feeling of security.  Of course, they were far from secure now and the town was all but deserted as the self-centered residents fled for air that was further away from its untimely degradation.

Mai's smile grew wider.  "They're getting desperate."

"Well, James, it's really quite fascinating actually," Mukade began to explain.  The two of them began to stroll off down the hall to discuss things that only they would comprehend.

The small group just stood there, silent, and stared at the 3 words that had just condemned the world. What could someone say that would make it all better? All they had worked for, the lives that had been lost, had been for naught. Axel, Kyari, Mukade and many others. The ones who's lives they had saved, were now destined to live in a dying world. As they lingered, the same question formed in all of their heads.

Barabas opened his eyes.  He stretched, sharply drawing in a deep breath.  The air burned his lungs a little and he quickly exhaled, returning to the quick and shallow breathing to which he was now adapted.

"Taking heavy fire! Repeat! Taking heavy fire!" Shouted Rico over his mic at the same time trying to avoid any bullet flying overhead. "Rico,Amanda here, Grif and his team is coming your way. T-2minutes."Replied the gorgeous Amanda.

Back on the battle field, Joe kept firing till he was breathless and out of ammo. "Sir, outta ammo. Coming to your position." radioed Joe through the helm-mic. "Roger! Squad 1! Defensive position!" Shouted Griffin over the mic, trying to make sure his team heard his orders.

Hitoshi watched expressionlessly as a large battle was represented by simple blips and statistics on a radar/readout screen before her.

The last two of the bombers went down thanks to a well-placed mortar from Casey.

Griffen could only stand there, mouth agape. He could not have seen this coming, not a hint. Mukade had been protective of her, yes, but as a father, not as a boyfriend. It took him about a minute to get his jaw working again.

"So," said Griffin as he, Mai and Casey walked down the hall.  "You're still workin' with Barabas, eh?"
