Neuralink's ''implementations'' '''connect brains and computers but cannot connect minds and computers'''. The mind cannot communicate with computers because it doesn’t function in a digital nor in a classical analog way. Thoughts are activation patterns within the memory and processing network. Neuralink would need to stimulate the correct neurons or even synapses. Sending electromagnetic waves through the brain cannot work as these are by-products of the thought holding neurons. The electromagnetic patterns don’t influence the neurons. That means the entire brain would have to be stuffed the bulky sensors. Besides triggering muscle movements neuralink couldn’t do many other write operations. For advanced read operations they need an interpreter that is trained for every single human because memories are based on truly individual experiences hence unique neural networks. Gradual improvements are to be expected but a full-fledged satisfying mind-computer-interface will continue to be science fiction for a few more centuries. Therefore, also no external memory soon.
