:<u>Actually</u> actually, it appears that the page is not used to provide alphabetical footnotes in the reference list at the bottom of the page but rather to provide the letters in the ''body'' of the page; without MediaWiki:Cite link label group-lower-alpha, each reference will appear in the article text as <sup>[lower-alpha ''n'']</sup>.
