- "Kokurikosaka Kara" (From Kokuriko Hill)
- A girls' romance published by Nakayoshi (1980) which captured the atmosphere of the 70's. Miyazaki used it in his study of girls manga. He wrote an article for the January '91 issue of Comic Box, entitled Kokurikosaka Kara'-My Shoujo Manga Experience.

- "Mimi wo Sumaseba" (If You Listen Hard)
- A girls' manga by Hiiragi Aoi, published by Ribbon. Ghibly is animating it for a '95 release. Miyazaki is doing the script and storyboards.
