There are some different attempts to program an AI. So far no attempt succeeded.

 The third part of the abbreviation has a bit less obvious meaning. "Doll" basically refers to the environment of the simulated life but there are other terms they could have used. Is it possible that the name was influenced by "ghost in the shell"? In this case it's not likely because the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_in_the_Shell_2:_Innocence second GITS movie] with dolls as topic was published (2004) after Oni release (2001).
