:The names of the subclasses are completely made up... The game itself never refers to the female Strikers in any fashion.
:"Harridan" is the same as "hag" or "shrew": a literary term for an old and/or vicious woman. "Banshee" is a female demon.
:The German version of the manual retained both the Valkyries and the Banshees, so you have nothing to complain about ^_^
:As for what the manual writers were smoking, dunno duncare. My own philosophy is to just ignore it, e.g., the 2032 thing.
