Besides the seven years of bad luck, this symbolizes Konoko's resignation as formulated in the end of her tirade: "Mankind as we knew it is doomed. The Chrysalis will change us all. Let's hope it's for the better." The choice of words is ambiguous, and could mean a paradigm shift rather than mutation. However, the rest of the tirade seems to indicate that she indeed recognizes Daodan symbiosis as the only chance for survival, and takes comfort in that the destruction of the ACCs (by her hand) has made it more obvious than ever.
