:::Am I the only one who sees lots of muddiness and artifacts in this video? This is Windows Movie Maker output, probably not the best quality setting, but better than the doppelgänger video IMHO. Placeholder quality, definitely, and also good enough for my own draft, which will be scaled down to 320x240. --geyser 13:58, 21 August 2008 (CEST)

:::I already have this video in the trailer at placeholder-quality. I encourage you to offer regular WIP snapshots of your draft to the community. This will motivate others and make my own iteration(s) more specific. Pretty please with cherries on top--geyser 13:58, 21 August 2008 (CEST)

::::Jeez, nothing gets by you, does it? Already you've discovered my page and there's nothing even there yet! And yes, I fully intended to put out a new draft by now, but (a) the Olympics are really distracting! I can't help it!, (b) I was defragging for two days and am still working on expanding my Boot Camp partition so I have room to work with video that can't be played on the Mac (to convert it to a Mac-friendly format), and finally (c) I felt that my priority should be capturing more footage (which required the defragging I mentioned) so I have more options when deciding what clips to lay down and in what order in FCE. In other words, it requires less reworking later if I have all the footage I need up front. But at this point I am going back into FCE to just work with what I've got. --Iritscen 16:41, 21 August 2008 (CEST)
:::are you okay with a fraps watermark in our final trailer, geyser? Eventually I intend there to be a placeholder draft that has flawless pacing and camera movement etc, i.e. that will be top-notch except for the occasional crappy video quality and a few watermarks. I intend to release this draft along with the "final" trailer, and even instead/ahead of it - if the "final" content is hard to come by. --geyser 13:58, 21 August 2008 (CEST)

::::Well, it's your free time... but I didn't want you to go through all the trouble of making a draft with actual footage. I mean, making a trailer is a creative endeavor; it's not really a process that's amenable to following someone else's strict directions. So I thought I would show you an idea, and you could point out what you need to see changed. But I don't think your goal should be 100% satisfaction with my work, if that's even possible to achieve. Keep in mind, ultimately we all have to make a choice between two options in Oni work: doing something ourselves or letting someone else do it. Sometimes we just have to shrug and say, "If I can't do this myself, I'll let whoever else is capable and willing do the work and try to be happy with it." There's 50 other things I'd like to do as far as Oni modding goes, but I'm resigned to the fact that some of those will be done by others if I don't get there first, and that's okay. There's plenty of work to go around.
::::Again, that's not to say I won't respond to suggestions, but things like timing and style are largely subjective. I guess what I'm saying is, I just don't want to see a do-exactly-what-I'm-doing trailer draft come out, because then I feel totally redundant. I mean, I didn't pay good money for professional editing software so I could follow others' directions to the letter when making videos. I hope you don't take offense at that, it's just how I feel, nothing personal. --Iritscen 16:41, 21 August 2008 (CEST)
:::I mean, you know, we're kinda going for a professional look here For me, that professional look owes much more to the directing than to the resolution or compression of the footage used, the presence of watermarks etc. I agree that cleaner source footage will make a (slightly) better impression in a high-bitrate 640x480 video, but the "fantastic" pacing of the trailer comes first... As for the FRAPS watermark, dunno, really. I guess it would be quite appropriate to turn the watermark into a tongue-in-cheek message such as "FRAPS is a great program, but we really can't be bothered to spend 37 bucks on the full version. Long live FRAPS demo! Wheeeeeee..." --geyser 13:58, 21 August 2008 (CEST)
