Konoko steps on the mirror with her right foot. Konoko's reflection being superimposed and commensurate with her foot is rather improbable since she doesn't seem to lean forward very much, plus her face looks awfully close. This must be a special mirror in which objects are farther than they appear.

Mirrors were once said to reflect the soul of the observer. That's why vampires don't have a reflection, that's why mirrors are covered in the house of a deceased person, that's why breaking a mirror while looking into it brings you seven years of bad luck. A more practical interpretation for the seven years is that mirrors used to cost a fortune. Either way, when Konoko deliberately steps on the mirror while looking into it, she makes a statement about her beliefs or lack thereof.

Besides the seven years of bad luck, this symbolizes Konoko's resignation as formulated in the end of her narration: "Mankind as we knew it is doomed. The Chrysalis will change us all. Let's hope it's for the better." The choice of words is ambiguous, and could mean a paradigm shift rather than mutation. However, the rest of the speech seems to indicate that she indeed recognizes Daodan symbiosis as the only chance for survival, and takes comfort in that the destruction of the ACCs (by her hand) has made it more obvious than ever.
