To-Do
These are only suggestions, although some are more obviously needed than others. Whatever in this list looks interesting to you, feel free to tackle it, even if you only have a little time here and there. However, if you are leaving a project half-done until you can resume it, please note that under the item in this list. Thanks for whatever you can do to contribute.
Remember, ignorance of wikis is no excuse for not contributing; MediaWiki has a great help system that explains everything you could need to know. You could bookmark a page from there as a handy reference.
General Wiki Maintenance
- Just browse Special:Wantedpages, and pick an interesting topic to write about!
- We are in the process of replacing the system of subpages under Images with categories. So, for instance, the Images/In-Game/Talking Heads should all be in the category Category:Talking heads. Then we can delete the Talking Heads subpage. At that point, all the images in Talking Heads will fall into the Unused images list. We can probably solve that by just listing all images at Images, and directing the user to look at the image categories to browse them by type.
- Categorize uncategorized images. This is overlapping with the item above, but the point is, we will be deleting any image that can't be categorized (since that means it has no place on the wiki). That not only includes all the images that are linked to from Images and its subpages, but wiki-support images like this little mystery item: Image:OE-table.png.
- Categorize categories. We don't want to go nuts here, of course. Wikipedia has a crazy-complex tree of categories. We don't want that. All we want are a second level of categories that separate the base level of categories. So, when we look at the main Categories page, we don't see categories like "Art by Guido" next to "Tables". Unless you have a good grasp of what each template does, you can just leave this to me (Iritscen).
- Stop by Category:Mysteries needing discussion, especially if you have uploaded some file or written some article in the past. You might be able to answer a question of someone else's.
- Set up handy redirects. These can be great time savers.
Adding Story Content
- We have always been open to including the quotes from the foreign language versions of Oni. If you play Oni in Russian, French, etc., you can add the dialogue from that version of the game to the wiki in a format similar to Quotes. If you are interested in doing this, please start a topic on Talk:Quotes before doing any work in that regard, so we can figure out how to present it on the wiki.
- Work on the character pages. Some are stubs (e.g. Kerr, Hasegawa, Griffin). Muro could really use some help on the factual side. See the next item for how to format your work, as far as presenting fact vs. speculation.
- Look over the individual Chapters pages. You may find an inaccuracy in a plot summary, or think of something to add to the Added value section of the page. Use the "Facts"/"Added value" system such as in SLD, where the first section contains only facts directly taken from the game, and the "Added value" section is where you can speculate to your heart's content.
- We'd like to add some kind of thumbnail/storyboard guide to the animated cutscenes (the opening and ending "anime"). Let's brainstorm on how to do this at some point. Notice the redlinks in the navbar on the right of this page and this page and you see why we need some images to represent the cutscenes.
- We've always wondered what levels 5, 7, 15, 16, and 17 were supposed to be. You can start an article that speculatively fills in the missing story. (Remember, BGI definitely played a role in it.)
- Add your voice to the Oni2 namespace. Brainstorm about the future of Oni. Maybe even the past.
- Also, the influences that can be tapped for an Oni 2 are underdeveloped: Oni2:Influences/Appleseed, Oni2:Influences/Blame, GUNNM, and Oni2:Influences/DeusEx. Feel free to add your own ideas for influences.
Adding to the Databases
- Novice scripters need lots of help learning BSL, and the material that's up there now is good, but incomplete. Anything you can add in the way of info on the functions and operators is welcome. Also, the BSL:Tutorial and related IGMD subpages such as IGMD/EnvWarehouse need some real TLC (whatever that is... geyser).
- There's still progress to be made in the field of binary hacking. Says geyser: "I'll try and make a TODO table showing whether a file format is 100% understood or not, whether the layout needs improving or not, etc." He also reminds us that we have some nice header and footer templates to produce a consistent look-and-feel for the OBD pages.
