This should become a reasonably up-to-date "TODO" list for the whole wiki.
__TOC__

If you want something done, but can't find the time to do it yourself, outline it here.
==To-Do==
These are only suggestions, although some are more obviously needed than others. Whatever in this list looks interesting to you, feel free to tackle it, even if you only have a little time here and there. However, if you are leaving a project half-done until you can resume it, please note that under the item in this list. Thanks for whatever you can do to contribute.

If you don't know what to do, and have a lot of time to spare, you can pick from here.
Remember, ignorance of wikis is no excuse for not contributing; MediaWiki has a great help system that explains everything you could need to know. You should set [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Wikitext a page] from there as a bookmark, like I did.

Additionally, a list of "wanted pages" is automatically generated [[Special:Wantedpages|HERE]].
===General Wiki Maintenance===
# Just browse [[Special:Wantedpages]], and pick an interesting topic to write about!
# [[wikipedia:Royal_we|We]] are in the process of replacing the system of subpages under Images with categories. So, for instance, the [[Images/In-Game/Talking Heads]] should all be in the category [[:Category:Talking heads]]. Then we can delete the Talking Heads subpage. At that point, all the images in Talking Heads will fall into the [[Special:Unusedimages|Unused images]] list. We can probably solve that by just listing all images at [[Images]], and directing the user to look at the image [[Special:Categories|categories]] to browse them by type.
# Categorize [[Special:Uncategorizedimages|uncategorized images]]. This is overlapping with the item above, but the point is, we will be deleting any image that can't be categorized (since that means it has no place on the wiki).
# Categorize [[Special:Categories|categories]]. We don't want to go nuts here, of course. Wikipedia has a crazy-complex tree of categories. We don't want that. All we want are a second level of categories that separate the base level of categories. So, when we look at the main Categories page, we don't see categories like "Art by Guido" next to "Tables". Unless you have a good grasp of what each template does, you can just leave this to me ([[User:Iritscen|Iritscen]]).
# Set up handy redirects. Just ask below this item if you don't know how. These can be great time savers.

===Adding Story Content===
# We have always been open to including the quotes from the foreign language versions of Oni. If you play Oni in Russian, French, etc., you can add that dialogue from that game to the site in a format similar to [[Quotes]]. If you are interested, please start a topic on [[Talk:Quotes]] before doing any work in that regard, so we can figure out how to present it on the wiki.
# Work on the character pages. Some haven't been touched at all (e.g. [[Kerr]], currently by far the most-[[Special:Wantedpages|wanted page]]). Some are barely there (e.g. [[Hasegawa]], [[Griffin]]). [[Muro]] could really use some help on the factual side. See the next item for how to format your work, as far as fact vs. speculation.
# Look over the individual [[Chapters]] pages. You may find an inaccuracy in the plot summary, or think of something to add to the [[:Category:Added value|Added value]] section of the page. Use the "Facts"/"Added value" system such as in [[SLD]], where the first section contains only facts directly taken from the game (probably shouldn't be called "Facts" explicitly), and the "Added value" section where you can speculate to your heart's content.
# We'd like to add some kind of thumbnail/storyboard guide to the animated cutscenes (the opening and ending anime). Let's brainstorm on how to do this at some point.
# We've always wondered what levels 5, 7, 15, 16, and 17 were supposed to be. You can start an article that speculatively fills in the missing story. (Remember, [[BGI]] definitely played a role in it.)
# Add your voice to the [[Oni2]] namespace. Brainstorm about the future of Oni. Maybe even the past.
# Also, the influences that can be tapped for an Oni 2 are underdeveloped:[[Oni2:Influences/Appleseed]], [[Oni2:Influences/Blame]], [[GUNNM]], and [[Oni2:Influences/DeusEx]]. Feel free to add your own ideas for influences.

==Main namespace==
===Adding to the Databases===
===Quotes===
# Novice scripters need lots of help learning [[BSL]], and the material that's up there now is good, but incomplete. Anything you can add in the way of info on the [[BSL:Functions|functions]] and [[BSL:Operators|operators]] is welcome. Also, the [[BSL:Tutorial]] and related [[IGMD]] subpages such as [[IGMD/EnvWarehouse]] need some real TLC.
They're mostly complete (the English ones). Could do with some fancy editing/templating/subpaging, though.
# There's still progress to be made in the field of [[OBD|binary hacking]]. Says geyser: "I'll try and make a TODO table showing whether a file format is 100% understood or not, whether the layout needs improving or not, etc." He also reminds us that we have some nice [[:Category:Headers and footers|header and footer templates]] to produce a consistent look-and-feel for the OBD pages.
# Okay, I'm just repeating what geyser wrote here, because I don't quite understand it at the moment:"'''Offsets''' -- They're tedious to add, but they're generally more helpful than the color map when actually viewing/editing a file. They will be less and less useful as we provide thorough [[OBD:OUP|OUP]] struct defs for people to view the binaries with. (hm, maybe we should complete the struct defs with color maps, to ^^) Offsets are defined with respect to the start-of-file unless mentioned otherwise (usually for a good reason)." So there you have it.

For instance, making every console into a subpage of [[Quotes/Consoles]] would make it easier to transclude them in e.g. Character or Chapter pages.

Perhaps various translations should be compared with the English somehow, to get a sort of "international" overview.
==Recent but not current events==

===[[War on spam]]===
If you have the time to contribute complete collections of quotes in German/French/Italian/Russian/whatever, you're welcome.

Otherwise, don't bother ripping/uploading a translation if it doesn't diverge significantly from the English version.

===Characters===
A few of them haven't been touched at all :
*[[Kerr]]
*[[Hasegawa]]
*[[Griffin]]
Others need expansion :
*[[Konoko]]
*[[Muro]]

===Entities===
*[[STURMANDERUNG]] needs fixing
Entities that haven't been touched :
*[[SLD]]
*[[Deadly Brain]]
===Chapters===
====Overviews====
Ideally, [[Chapters]] should hold a concise overview of Oni's plot, with as little overstatement as possible.

Subpages of [[Chapters]] should hold overviews of every chapter. Also without overstatement, but in more detail.

Consoles, dialogues, cutscene descriptions. Screenshots should be uploaded and thumbnailed. Splashcreens can be included full-size.

A sorta walkthrough, without the technical tips to gamers. Just the material.
====Lost Chapters====
Erm... well, they don't exist yet, that's the whole problem. They're episodes either complementary or alternative to the [[Chapters]].

Whatever goes on in between two official chapters can be elaborated on. Whatever might have happened differently - same thing.

===Progress tracking===
:I'll try and make a TODO table showing whether a file format is 100% understood or not, whether the layout needs improving or not, etc.

===Header and footer templates===
:The following are meant to provide a nice-looking navigation interface for the OBD database.
:They also make it easy to change to a new header/footer format all at once, on all the pages.
*[[Template:OBD File Header]]
*[[Template:OBD File Footer]]
*[[Template:OBD BINA Header]]
*[[Template:OBD BINA Footer]]
*[[Template:OBD OBJC Header]]
*[[Template:OBD OBJC Footer]]
*[[Template:OBD OSBD Header]]
*[[Template:OBD OSBD Footer]]
===Table templates===
:The current table header ([[Template:OBDtable]]) provides for a nice enough layout ([[User:geyser|IMO]]), and it makes the markup a lot lighter.
:But it's a bit ugly markup-wise. And "some people" don't like the fancy twin border. ^^
:I'll make a new table header ({{OBD Table}}) that's closer to how other MediaWiki folks template their tables. There will be no twin border.
:Should look something like :
<nowiki>{| align=center valign=top width=100% border=1 cellspacing=0 cellpadding=2 style="background:#FFEEDD;"</nowiki>
:Headers and table-closing tag will be left at the editor's responsibility ^^
:Once it's there, obviously the existing tables will have to be slowly ported to the new layout. Same boring routine as with the headers and footers.

===Offsets===
:They're tedious to add, but they're generally more helpful than the color map when actually viewing/editing a file.
:They will be less and less useful as we provide thorough [[OBD:OUP|OUP]] struct defs for people to view the binaries with.
:(hm, maybe we should complete the struct defs with color maps, to ^^)
:Offsets are defined with respect to the start-of-file unless mentioned otherwise (usually for a good reason).
::[[User:Geyser|geyser]] 19:06, 8 November 2006 (CET)
===Hex editor screenshots===
:I don't think uploading them on the wiki is a good idea.
:Anyone dedicated enough to provide new ones ([[User:ssg|ssg]], [[User:Loser|Loser]], [[User:geyser|myself]]) either already have an oni2.net account or will get one.
:Since the images are not supposed to be thumbnailed or "galleried" by the wiki's engine, external images suffice amply.
:Anyone can edit the page featuring the image and set the URL to point to anything at all he likes.
:I can't be dictatorial about those wiki-based images. I'd just like the need for them to be reconsidered/debated.
:In case they're maintained, I'd recommend PNG over GIF as a much more compact format (and an open one, too).

==Oni2==
===Free-for-all===
The Oni 2 namespace is intended for brainstorming relative to Oni sequels, prequels, epilogues and what not.

If you have an idea you seriously think it would be cool to have in an Oni sequel, here's where you can share it.

The actual think tank that is likely to react/recombine/coordinate is a few hyperdedicated members of the community.

We hog other people's ideas, contaminate them and alienate them.
:(sorta like what the [[Daodan]] does to [[Konoko]])
But we do it because we ''care'', and so it's probably not too bad.

"Don't be shy" ^^
===Influences===
Stub influences are :
*[[Oni2:Influences/Appleseed]]
*[[Oni2:Influences/Blame]]
Underdeveloped influences are :
*[[GUNNM]]
Non-developed influences are :
*[[Oni2:Influences/DeusEx]]

To-Do

These are only suggestions, although some are more obviously needed than others. Whatever in this list looks interesting to you, feel free to tackle it, even if you only have a little time here and there. However, if you are leaving a project half-done until you can resume it, please note that under the item in this list. Thanks for whatever you can do to contribute.

Remember, ignorance of wikis is no excuse for not contributing; MediaWiki has a great help system that explains everything you could need to know. You should set a page from there as a bookmark, like I did.

General Wiki Maintenance

  1. Just browse Special:Wantedpages, and pick an interesting topic to write about!
  2. We are in the process of replacing the system of subpages under Images with categories. So, for instance, the Images/In-Game/Talking Heads should all be in the category Category:Talking heads. Then we can delete the Talking Heads subpage. At that point, all the images in Talking Heads will fall into the Unused images list. We can probably solve that by just listing all images at Images, and directing the user to look at the image categories to browse them by type.
  3. Categorize uncategorized images. This is overlapping with the item above, but the point is, we will be deleting any image that can't be categorized (since that means it has no place on the wiki).
  4. Categorize categories. We don't want to go nuts here, of course. Wikipedia has a crazy-complex tree of categories. We don't want that. All we want are a second level of categories that separate the base level of categories. So, when we look at the main Categories page, we don't see categories like "Art by Guido" next to "Tables". Unless you have a good grasp of what each template does, you can just leave this to me (Iritscen).
  5. Set up handy redirects. Just ask below this item if you don't know how. These can be great time savers.

Adding Story Content

  1. We have always been open to including the quotes from the foreign language versions of Oni. If you play Oni in Russian, French, etc., you can add that dialogue from that game to the site in a format similar to Quotes. If you are interested, please start a topic on Talk:Quotes before doing any work in that regard, so we can figure out how to present it on the wiki.
  2. Work on the character pages. Some haven't been touched at all (e.g. Kerr, currently by far the most-wanted page). Some are barely there (e.g. Hasegawa, Griffin). Muro could really use some help on the factual side. See the next item for how to format your work, as far as fact vs. speculation.
  3. Look over the individual Chapters pages. You may find an inaccuracy in the plot summary, or think of something to add to the Added value section of the page. Use the "Facts"/"Added value" system such as in SLD, where the first section contains only facts directly taken from the game (probably shouldn't be called "Facts" explicitly), and the "Added value" section where you can speculate to your heart's content.
  4. We'd like to add some kind of thumbnail/storyboard guide to the animated cutscenes (the opening and ending anime). Let's brainstorm on how to do this at some point.
  5. We've always wondered what levels 5, 7, 15, 16, and 17 were supposed to be. You can start an article that speculatively fills in the missing story. (Remember, BGI definitely played a role in it.)
  6. Add your voice to the Oni2 namespace. Brainstorm about the future of Oni. Maybe even the past.
  7. Also, the influences that can be tapped for an Oni 2 are underdeveloped:Oni2:Influences/Appleseed, Oni2:Influences/Blame, GUNNM, and Oni2:Influences/DeusEx. Feel free to add your own ideas for influences.

Adding to the Databases

  1. Novice scripters need lots of help learning BSL, and the material that's up there now is good, but incomplete. Anything you can add in the way of info on the functions and operators is welcome. Also, the BSL:Tutorial and related IGMD subpages such as IGMD/EnvWarehouse need some real TLC.
  2. There's still progress to be made in the field of binary hacking. 3. Okay, I'm just repeating what geyser wrote here, because I don't quite understand it at the moment:"Offsets -- They're tedious to add, but they're generally more helpful than the color map when actually viewing/editing a file. They will be less and less useful as we provide thorough OUP struct defs for people to view the binaries with. (hm, maybe we should complete the struct defs with color maps, to ^^) Offsets are defined with respect to the start-of-file unless mentioned otherwise (usually for a good reason)." So there you have it.
